Organic Farming

Organic Farming is a technique of farming where crop rotation, green manure, compost and pest control using biological methods are encouraged. This method is practiced in order to maintain the soil productivity with a long life and keeps the crop healthier. Organic farming strictly discourages or limits the usage of chemical fertilizer and pesticides, plant growth regulator such as hormones, livestock antibiotics, food additives and genetically modified organisms.

Organic farming is a system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and its people. It relies on the ecological process to grow itself and sustain organically .

Commercial

The organic farming is very rarely practiced as it remains incompetent in front of current day farming using chemically loaded fertilizers or pesticides and the genetically modified crops. The crops which are grown with the help of chemically loaded fertilizer or pesticide have an adverse affect on the consumers during the long run. The Chemical starts entering the human body in small dose when he consumes the yield of such crops and over the years the concentration of various chemicals increase so high in the body, that they develop diseases that can range from simple irritation of the skin and eyes to more severe effects such as affecting the nervous system, mimicking hormones causing reproductive problems, and also causing cancer.

The Genetically modified crops are high in productivity, pest resistance, climate resistance etc. But they are again low on nutritive values. These kinds of crops are produced after the genes are mutated or genetically engineered in their DNA with some specific changes. Critics have raised there voices against such foods on several grounds including safety issues, ecological concerns and economic concerns raised by the fact that these organisms are subject to intellectual property law .

Domestic

The organic farming can be practiced at one’s place using simple techniques, like by using the kitchens green waste as manures. The waste of vegetables and the residual tea leaves which often finds its way to the dustbins can be made use to nourish the plants organically. This will also lead to increase in fertility of the soil. This also leads to recycling hence reducing our waste output from the home. The organic farming is cheap but health. One can easily take over such practices in order to cut down on cost and to go organic and healthy living.
